Probus Ponderings  –  Combined Probus Club Of Cherrybrook

The past few weeks have provided multiple opportunities for fun and friendship for members of the Combined Probus Club of Cherrybrook. Three beautiful days and two great nights were spent at the historic Carrington Hotel, Katoomba to celebrate Christmas in July.

The weather was amazing, warm and sunny with not a breath of wind which made the local bus tour of sights from Mt York to Little Hartley and Echo Point exceptional. It is hard to better a perfect picnic in the Aussie outdoors. At night a dozen hardy (or foolhardy) souls completed the Katoomba Falls Reserve Night-lit Walk in the more bracing evening temperatures. The Yulefest dinner, complete with all the Christmas trimmings and a saucy game of ‘Guess the Gift’ brought much laughter and creativity of answers.

In early August the club celebrated its 24th Birthday with a special meeting complete with a delicious morning tea including 180 fabulous cupcakes as part of a magnificent birthday cake. Local up and coming entertainer Charlie Chech spoke about his life journey to date then entertained us with wonderful songs from the era of Sinatra and his contemporaries. His relaxed style and lovely voice won over many new fans. The day concluded with a well-attended lunch at West Pennant Hills Sports Club.

Another novel event was a Saturday night cocktail party. Members dressed in their finery and sampled several delicious cocktails accompanied by tasty finger food. Smooth background music created a lovely ambience and a ‘Mixology Quiz’ tested the knowledge of the serious cocktail aficionados. Overall, an ongoing fantastic time.

While all this additional excitement has been going on, all regular activities have continued offering plenty of variety for everyone. Probus Club
