Why have a Lawn?

In today’s world of harsh and clean lines within architecture, the grass is a cheap and effective way to break the harshness of concrete and other solid building materials.

Your lawn is an extension of your home and if properly maintained, provides a pleasant entertainment area and safe place for children to play.

Watering Hints
During the summer month’s grasses tend to brown off. By watering the lawn lightly in the early morning or later in the afternoon when the sun goes down, the grass will be replenished and water wastage will be kept to a minimum. This is in contrast to watering the lawn in the middle of the day when the full sun will evaporate the water away before it reaches the grassroots.

Cutting Hints
During the summer months, the lawn should be cut every one to two weeks as this is the time of the grass’s quickest growth. It is vital that mower blades are kept sharp to ensure no damage occurs to the grass or its roots.

During the colder, slower months, it is recommended that the lawn be cut every three to four weeks and not cut below 2.5cm. Mulching your grass clippings for added fertiliser has become very popular with most lawn mowers and ride on mowers now having ‘mulching kits’ available. This is a great way to feed and protect your lawn as well as reduce green waste.
