Broken appliances, worn clothing and well-loved household items will get a second chance when The Hills Shire Council hosts its first-ever Repair Fair at Castle Hill Showground on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
The free event will offer limited repair sessions for a range of items, including small appliances, furniture, jewellery, clothing and timber items, helping residents extend the life of everyday belongings and keep them out of landfill.
Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Michelle Byrne said the Repair Fair was an exciting new initiative that encouraged residents to rethink throwaway culture.
“This is the first time we’re bringing a Repair Fair to The Hills, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to give their old or broken items a new lease on life,” Mayor Byrne said.
“As well as the repair sessions, demonstrations, stalls and activities for the kids, we’re excited to bring back our free Bike Drop Off & Check and Tune alongside the Repair Fair.
“The Repair Fair reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to waste reduction and building a circular economy where items are reused and repaired rather than discarded.”

Alongside the repair sessions, attendees can enjoy free coffee, a community barbecue hosted by the Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club, basketry and gardening workshops, repair demonstrations, children’s activities and market stalls.
The event will also accept donations of bicycles, scooters, e-bikes, mobile phones, tablets and laptops less than 10 years old.
Repair sessions are free, but bookings are required. Hills Shire residents must provide proof of residence to participate.
