Middle Dural Public School to Receive 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant

BY MATT KEAN

Woolworths and Landcare Australia have announced more than 1,600 primary schools and early learning centres across Australia will be recipients of the 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants.

Middle Dural Public School is one of the successful schools and will receive a $1500 grant from Woolworths and Junior Landcare Australia.

The school will use the funding to build a harmonious yarning circle that will work with the natural bush landscape of the school and celebrate its indigenous connections.

Member for Hornsby and Minister for Environment Matt Kean was thrilled to hear Middle Dural was successful in receiving this grant. “It is fantastic the school will be able to create this space which acknowledges our indigenous ancestors while taking advantage of the beautiful grounds of the school, ” Mr Kean said.

Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant projects focus on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices or enhancing native habitats such as vegetable gardens, recycling initiatives and native habitat enhancement and indigenous perspectives. Primary schools and Early Learning Centres that receive the grant can further their environmental projects in the school or community, helping to educate the younger generation about the importance of the environment.

“I want to thank Woolworths for investing in our schools and ensuring the message of sustainability is passed on to the next generation,” Mr Kean said. This year, an additional $500 Bee Bonus was also offered, providing extra funding to support the conservation of Australia’s bee population. Middle Dural Public School has been granted a Bee Bonus.

With bees and pollination a crucial part of the horticultural and agricultural industry in Australia, Middle Dural Public School can use the Bee Bonus in the development of native beehives, pollinator gardens or bee education programs.
