McKenzie Park in Wilberforce has a new playground, and Hawkesbury City Council says it’s built to serve kids from toddlers through to pre-teens. The old equipment is gone, replaced by a climbing unit, a slide, a large single swing, a ground-level mini trampoline and a spinner — a mix designed to cover the 0 to 12 age range in one space.
The upgrade isn’t just about the play equipment. Council has also carried out work around the park itself, aimed at making it more comfortable, safer and easier to get around for the people who use it.
Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather and Councillor Paul Veigel cut the ribbon on the new play space on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
“The renewed playground is a wonderful outcome for a much-loved, local park in Wilberforce,” Mayor Sheather said. “The works have made the park safer and more accessible and include a mix of traditional and modern park activities for the kids of Wilberforce to enjoy for many years to come.”
Council says the redesign follows four benchmarks it uses for its playgrounds — Can I Get There, Can I Play, Can I Stay and Can I Connect — a framework meant to check that a space is not just fun, but easy to reach, comfortable to spend time in, and set up for people to actually mix with their neighbours.
