Hornsby Soroptimist’s support the Hornsby Kuring- Gai Women’s shelter which provides crisis accommodation for women without dependents who find themselves homeless. As we know, homelessness can happen to anyone.
Women can find themselves in a domestic violence situation, suffer financial hardship, a relationship break down or many other contributing factors.
The Soroptimists International of Hornsby has been supporting the shelter since it was officially opened at the end of 2014, providing hands-on assistance and fundraising. All proceeds from our September raffle will go towards the shelter.
HIGH TEA AND RAFFLE
The High Tea, our biggest fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the women’ shelter, unfortunately, has been postponed. Stay tuned for more information in the months ahead. Our Bunnings BBQ has also been postponed till post-Covid lockdowns. In the meantime, Bunnings has generously gifted $500.00 in vouchers which are being used as prizes in our September raffle. Other prizes include a one week holiday on the South Coast, an oil painting, a huge hamper and lots lots more. All proceeds from our September raffle will go towards the shelter.
THE DISH
Our members are also involved in serving a 2-course meal at The Dish at Hornsby. The Dish is a community initiative that supplies meals for the homeless and those in need. We assist each month.
DAYS FOR GIRLS
A busy and committed group continues to support Days for Girls by raising money and making kits. This wonderful project supports improved health, education, and livelihoods for girls.
