On Tuesday evening Dural scouts set out around Galston on their bikes and scooters along with Leaders Nathan, Gavin and Steve. This was an activity suggested and planned by a scout Kiera, in line with our youth led, adult supported program.
Cycling is one of Scouting’s various outdoor activities in which scouts learn and undertake new adventurous activity skills and develop existing skills.
Our night started with each scout doing an ABCD pre-ride test, where A is for Air, B is for Brakes, and C is for cranks, chain and cogs. Scouts had fun with the D which refers to a drop test: Pick the bike up about 5cm off the ground and drop it. If things fell off (torches, lights, mounted items) or unusual sounds made, then the scout had to help locate and fix those issues.
From the Hall, we cycled to Aldi for a tasty treat, and then to Hayes Park where we looped the oval and enjoyed the well-lit skate area. We rode back to the hall and finished our night with a quick review on what we enjoyed or might do different next time.
Dural Scout Group has vacancies for Girls and Boys from 6 to 25 years. Joeys (5yo), Cubs (8yo), Scouts (12yo) and Venturers (16yo).
