Snippets From Soroptimist International Of The Hills

By Bev Richardson

2020 has been a difficult year for Soroptimist International of The Hills. Fundraising opportunities have been severely reduced, all meetings conducted on Zoom with occasional social activities limited to requirements of Covid-19 isolation regulations.

An invitation from Bunnings to hold one of their initial BBQs on 24 October was a real boost to everyone and perhaps heralded the beginning of a return to “normal” Customers were delighted that they were again able to enjoy a sausage sizzle after a visit to the store A big “thank you” to Bunnings for giving our Club the chance to raise some much needed funds.

With our 40th Anniversary celebration coming up on 16 November plans for a celebratory dinner have been placed on hold until next year but members will mark the occasion with a special anniversary cake at their last meeting of the year.

Also in November the South West Pacific Region bi-annual Conference moves on line (20-22 November) so members will be able to tune in individually or in small groups to the panel discussions and other activities. Community members who would like to find out a bit more about Soroptimist International can access details through the website www.siswp.org. Cost to participate over the 3 day period is $100. To find out more about this contact President Cathy Tracey at [email protected].

2021 also brings the 100th Anniversary of Soroptimist International as a global organization with a great program of events, telling of stories, and activities planned throughout the year. 100 years of supporting women and girls throughout the world to achieve their goals through education, empowerment and enabling projects.

President Cathy said “If you would like to find out more about our Club and our activities over the past 40 years please email us and come along to a meeting. You will find a group of dedicated women joined together with a common thread to make the world a better place for many women and girls as well as have some fun and friendship along the way”.
