Arcadian Quilting News

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The shops are already bursting at the seams with Christmas fare … the overseas mail is also into the swing with parcels, cards and those collectable Christmas Stamps. The Carols can be heard wherever we go!

Our Arcadian Quilting members recently enjoyed several lovely surprises (a bit like Christmas) when we were shown two 1930’s quilts, both belonging to one of our members.  Having once lived in America she was able to buy and add these two amazing quilts to her private collection.

One is made from embroidered blocks, each representing a State of America (50 states at that time) and the other is called a Dresden Plate quilt.  Both are hand-made and hand-quilted.

Another group member Sue Olma proudly showed her ‘hand-pieced’ Hexi-Quilt, a true labour-of-love, 3 years in the making.

We next look forward to seeing Andrea Blackford from the Assistance Dogs Australia Team and her Ambassador dog Bella at our meeting on 29th November when we will present quilts to her for children who will receive an Assistance Dog as a support to their lives. We are proud to be able to add in a small way to the wellbeing of children with difficulties.

The Christmas planning continues with a date chosen for our Christmas Lunch Party which we will hold at our ‘home-venue’ in Galston on 6th December, 2023.

At a recent patchwork meeting the decision was made … we’re starting our “Christmas Challenge” blocks. Watch-this-space in early 2024 to see the results!

We wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Let’s see 2024 as an open-door to a better future for all.
