Pool Party, Music and Picnic to Mark Australia Day in Hornsby Shire

Hornsby Shire Council invites residents to bring a picnic and a rug and ‘reflect, respect and celebrate’ this Australia Day at a day of free music, entertainment and swimming pool fun at Hornsby Park from 12pm-5pm.

The lively party for all the family will kick off with music from Gawura Cultural Immersions, a dance company of First Nations performers who perform all their songs in Dhaurug Dalang.

Local favourites the Funky Monkeys will get the party started with a selection of Australian hits and Lily Guerrero and her band will bring a Latin flavour to the day.

When you are ready for a dip, Hornsby Leisure & Aquatic Centre next to the park will have free entry from 1pm-4pm and lots of inflatable fun in the outdoor pool! For pool entry, please see the Aquatic Centre front desk. Capacity limits will apply.

Children will be kept busy with activities including free face painting and the whole family can go wild with inflatable basketball and soccer. International food trucks will serve food to suit all tastes including German sausages, Asian street food, ice cream and frozen desserts.

In the morning, Council will also host an Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at the park, welcoming 40 new Citizens from 15 countries, including India, South Africa, the Philippines, Iran, Ukraine and Brazil.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the whole community to the beautiful surrounds of Hornsby Park to mark our national day,” said Hornsby Shire Mayor, Philip Ruddock.

“Supported by the National Australia Day Council, this year’s Australia Day event is more than just outdoor family fun and a wonderful afternoon of free entertainment, but an opportunity for us to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate,” said Mayor Ruddock.

Hornsby Shire Council’s Australia Day event runs from 12pm to 5pm at Hornsby Park, Peats Ferry Road, Hornsby and is FREE. For more information visit hornsby.nsw.gov.au/australiaday
