NAIDOC Week 2026 at Hornsby Shire

Hornsby Shire Council will celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 with a special author talk and a series of free children’s activities across its libraries during the July school holidays.

The centrepiece of the program is Stephen Gapps – The Australian Wars on 8 July at Hornsby Library, where the award-winning historian will discuss the frontier wars, Aboriginal resistance and survival, and the lasting impact of more than 150 years of conflict across Australia.

The event forms part of this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, marking five decades of celebrating and recognising the achievements, cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Mayor Warren Waddell said NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for the community to celebrate and learn more about First Nations cultures and history.

“NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for our community to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Cr Waddell said.

Council’s NAIDOC Week program is part of its broader commitment to delivering inclusive, educational and culturally enriching experiences for the community.
