Middle Dural Scouts Back in Business

All four levels of First Dural Scouts are now back in full swing.

Meetings are as follows:
Joeys (5 – 8 years) Thursdays 6.30, Cubs (8 – 11 years) Wednesdays 6.30, Scouts (12 – 15 Years), Mondays 6.30 and Venturers (16 -18) Tuesdays 7.00.

Feel free to turn up at the Scout Hall on the above nights to sample First Dural.

Some of the recent activities of the various groups include mini raft building by the Scouts and driving range golf by the Cubs. The Joeys learnt about construction by building a bridge. Lots of lessons here including knots and showing confidence in your work by walking on the bridge. Venturers have started the year on a high note with the construction of a tower which they used to cook pancakes.

As a more detailed example of the activities of First Dural, below are the activities planned for our largest group, the cub scouts with 29 members (ages 8 – 11). Cubs have planned an interesting term including fire lighting (bushcraft) for outdoor cooking, bike safety and rules including how to repair a puncture, an environmental scavenger hunt, knotting and ropework, use of a compass, navigation and map reading, making a tripod with poles and ropes and boiling a billy and finally an outdoor activity such as ice skating or rock climbing. The older cubs are encouraged to develop leadership skills by managing some of the activities.

If you a cub aged child believe that she or he would enjoy these activities and skills, please contact the Leader in Charge of the Cubs, Phirooza Battiwalla on 0411 731 976. Or simply turn up at 6.30 pm on any Wednesday night.

For General enquires, contact the Group Leader Simon Edwards on 0410 477 813.
