The Lions Junior Public Speaking Bendigo Shield Awards

YMC’s Aparna & Satish – Winners of the Bendigo Shield

The annual West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Lions Club’s Junior Public Speaking Awards were held recently for the Bendigo Shield. This was the second year of the event for primary school aged and junior high school students and was enhanced by the involvement of the Young Masters Club’s Aparna Sallakonda and Satish Keerthi. The success of the event is only possible with the wonderful support of the Galston Community Branch of the Bendigo Bank.

This year students were tasked with designing a monologue and individually showcasing quite challenging scenarios from a short list of options, in two categories at six distinct age levels. The amazing presentations were of such a fine calibre leaving the large Covid-restricted audience highly entertained. A new skill was profiled and all participants certainly did fulfill award aims of increasing confidence and encouraging leadership. Teachers, parents and YMC deserve every congratulations for developing such fine ambassadors of their schools. It was indeed a pleasure for Lion Gavin Ridley of West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Lions Club to organise and host such a successful youth event.
