Kenthurst Combined Probus Club

Kenthurst Probus members took a lively step back in time at their January meeting, revisiting the soundtrack of their youth through a presentation on the history of rock & roll.

The session traced the rise of a genre that defined the 1950s and 1960s, years closely aligned with the formative memories of many in the room. Archival video footage brought the era vividly to life, featuring performances by trailblazers such as Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Connie Francis and Elvis Presley. Alongside the music, the presentation sketched the personal stories behind these iconic figures, offering context to the songs that once dominated jukeboxes and dance floors.

The program struck a chord with members and guests alike, blending nostalgia with cultural history and underscoring the enduring influence of early rock ’n’ roll on popular music today.

Looking ahead, the club’s next meeting on 16 February will shift focus from music to Australian history, with a talk on Breaker Morant. The presentation promises to explore lesser-known aspects of the controversial bushman, extending beyond familiar film portrayals and published accounts.

Kenthurst Probus meets at 9.30 am on the third Monday of each month at the Uniting Church building in Kenthurst. Visitors are welcome, and those interested in attending or learning more can contact the club’s membership officer, Burt Stuut, on 0424 247 003, or simply arrive on the day.
