Kenthurst Probus Celebrates 300 Meeting Milestone

Kenthurst Probus members gathered on 21 September for the club’s three hundredth meeting since its inauguration in 1997. It is an impressive record for a group that has kept turning up month after month for most of three decades.

President Burt Stuut opened the morning by inducting Rhonda Brown as the club’s newest recruit and welcoming her warmly into the fold.

The guest speaker was Mai Nguyen, a spokesperson for Australia’s Falun Dafa Association, who spoke on “Traditional Chinese Culture”. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, was described to members as a set of exercises in keeping with traditions Chinese people have embraced for many years, even centuries.

Its followers practise simple daily physical exercises believed to enhance personal wellbeing. Despite the modesty of its aims, the Communist Party of China has banned the movement’s practice and customs.

After her address, Ms Nguyen and her colleague Emmy led members through some of the exercises. Nobody in the room looked like a threat to civilisation.

Looking ahead, some members will join the audience at the Theatre Royal for “Fiddler on the Roof” later this month. A walk at Boongala Gardens, Kenthurst, is also planned, followed by lunch at the Vanilla Cream Café, Annangrove. In October, some members will enjoy a bus tour to Yarrawonga, and there will also be a visit to the Dural History Cottage in Galston.

The club meets at 9.30 AM on the third Monday of every month, except December, at the Kenthurst Uniting Church on the corner of Jones Road and Kenthurst Road. Visitors are always welcome to come along, enjoy morning tea and hear the speaker’s presentation. Membership Director Rosalie Chaloner can provide details on 0410 911 917.
