HSC Success at Hills Grammar

Hills Grammar congratulate the Class of 2020 on their extraordinary HSC results. The top ATAR of 99.85 was achieved by two students and across the cohort the median ATAR was 80.  In a year that tested all of us, the Class of 2020, supported by their dedicated teachers, showed the depth of their resilience and determination.

The comprehensive nature of the achievements of the Class of 2020 can be seen in the fact that Hills Grammar was above the State average in 27 of our 32 HSC courses offered this year.  With 56% achieving results in the Bands 5 and 6 range (80% and above) with Band 6 results in 22 HSC courses. The cohort included two HSC Top Achievers, two HSC All Rounders, 51 Band 6 results and 21 students listed as Distinguished Achievers.

Emma Zou (Dux) and Josh Huang both received the Schools HSC Top Achiever title. Emma’s passion for Japanese was rewarded when she placed 2nd in the state in Japanese Continuers. Emma was also a HSC All Rounder – a distinguished achiever in all 8 subjects attempted. Joshua spoke very eloquently at the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner as one of our international students, and he again showed his talents by placing 8th in the state in the English EAL/D course. Josh was also a HSC All Rounder, with Band 6 results in five courses.

Over the last 5 years, the School has seen a steady increase and stabilisation of students taking on extension courses, with 55% of the Class of 2020 completing at least one challenging extension course as part of their pattern of study. That is a sure sign of ambition and opportunity.

Whatever their results the School is proud of all of their students. A Hills Grammar education is broader than an ATAR, and there are many paths and definitions of success, with so many opportunities arising from these student’s achievements, it will be exciting to see what the future holds for these Hills Originals.
