HSC Excellence at Hills Grammar

We congratulate the Class of 2021 on their excellent HSC results including
• one First in State (Geography)
• one Fifth in State (Japanese Extension)
• two HSC Top Achievers
• two Encore Nominations (Music 1 and Music 2)
• two HSC All Rounders
• 70 Band 6 results
• 26 Distinguished Achievers

For a small year group (66 students) to have achieved so much in their second COVID interrupted year is a testament to their efforts and resilience, the dedication of teachers, and the care and support of parents and community.

This year Sarah Wilson placed first in the state in Geography. This is an incredible achievement, and part of a fine Hills Grammar tradition, with previous firsts in Latin Continuers, Music Extension, English Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 1, and Information Technology since 2002.

Sarah was also an HSC All-Rounder, with Band 6 results in all six courses she undertook. Sarah completed 11 units, including Japanese Extension, where she achieved 47/50. Other highlights included Japanese Continuers (95%) and Economics (94%). Sarah achieved an ATAR of 98.90 and joins 13 students whose ATAR was above 95.

Dux of the School and HSC Top Achiever – Weimiao (Shysie) Wang’s passion for Japanese was rewarded when she placed 5th in the state in Japanese Extension. Shysie was also an HSC All-Rounder – a distinguished achiever in all 7 subjects attempted. Shysie completed extension courses in Mathematics (Extension 1 and 2) and Japanese (Extension 1) with her highest results in Japanese Continuers 98%, Japanese Extension 1 (49/50), Economics 95% Mathematics Extension 1 94%. Shysie achieved an ATAR of 99.55 – which places her among the top 0.8% of students in the HSC cohort of 70,000.

Ranked 91 in the SMH Top 100 Schools (18.18% Band 6), our students also achieved 245 (63%) Band 5 and 6 results (80% and above), with 59% completing at least one challenging extension course – a sure sign of ambition and opportunity, and when combined with the high proportion of 80+ marks, makes a difference to ATAR for our students.

Whatever their results we are proud of all our Hills Originals. A Hills Grammar education is broader than an ATAR, and there are many paths and definitions of success. We look forward to following their exciting futures in the years ahead!
