The Galston Concerts in Galston Uniting Church continue Sunday afternoon 23rd June when international guitarist Andrew Blanch offers a Mediterranean and South American musical tour.
Andrew will feature Venice with a guitar concerto, in bubbly Baroque style, by Antonio Vivaldi (of ‘Four Seasons’ fame) before music with Spanish flair from Asturias, Granada and Seville.
The program then flies us to Latin America for music at times lyrical, at others virtuosic, from Brazil, Cuba, Uruguay, and Venezuela. A fitting finale of Argentinian folksongs will feature Andrew’s duo partner Maria Eugenia Nieva, mezzo soprano, an established performer in her own right and a highlight of Andrew’s recent Australian concerts.
They’ll also share the stage in Andrew’s pending 45-concert Seattleto- Miami coast-to-coast USA tour, August to December – adding to Andrew’s international profile following successes in competitions in Portugal and the US, concerts in New Zealand and recordings in Brazil.
Back in Australia Andrew’s recent CDs have topped the ARIA Classical Charts, with reviews praising Andrew as “a complete artist”, “a gift to the guitar” and “a leading light in Australian performance”.
The 23rd June event offers a pre-concert chat from 1.40pm, the concert (with relaxed comments) from 2 till 3.15ish and a meet-the-musicians post-concert afternoon tea.
Easy access and ample off-street parking complement the renowned acoustic and ambience of Galston Uniting, a real bonus for Hills district music-lovers.
Bookings are preferred on trybooking.com (search Galston 23 June) or phone Galston Uniting on 9653 2039 to book seats for cash-only payments ‘at the door’ prior to the concert.
