Every year, Foster Care Angels aim to make Christmas a little brighter for vulnerable children and young people living in the foster care system. Historically, we supported vulnerable young people living in Residential Care Facilities.
In recent years, we have expanded our Christmas Drive to include children and young people living in hotels and other crisis accommodation. Since our first Christmas Drive in 2016, we have provided thousands of gifts to children as young as toddlers.
Christmas is, for most of us, a time of joy, family, gifts, and celebrating. To think that there are so many children where Christmas is literally just another day really broke our hearts. We work hard to fundraise and engage with the community to source donations of new toys, electronics. books, perfume, make up, nail polish, mens cologne sets, puzzles, board games, movie passes, vouchers for activities like the zoo, rock climbing, Featherdale Farm, bowling, laser tag, and other fun school holiday activities. We also seek tax deductible cash donations to assist with purchasing gaps and delivery costs.
We are hoping that this Christmas Drive will be even bigger and better as the need grows. Children range in age from toddlers to 17 years of age, many are in sibling groups. We welcome donations large and small, from corporate donations to individual giving, every dollar counts. Founder, Kelly Doyle says “Without the generosity of the community, Christmas will be bleak for hundreds of children and young people living in crisis accommodation. The community has been extremely generous in recent years, and we are hoping that the spirit of Christmas will once again come through”.
