Hornsby teenager Elysa Oliveri is Cricket Australia’s Young Leader of The Year, receiving the high honour for her work with all-ability causes and fundraising.
This is the second big award for the 17-year-old Westleigh teenager, who earlier won Cricket NSW’s Young Leader of the Year Award. Elysa is actively involved with the all-abilities Blowfly Cricket Club in The Hills District and successfully raised funds for blind cricket.
Elysa and her Pennant Hills High School mate Aliya Colburt held a successful fundraiser for the NSW Blind Cricket team, the McGrath Foundation, and the official opening of the Pennant Hills High School cricket nets. This event raised $2,544.10 and helped to raise awareness of the NSW Blind cricket team.
“It is a great honour to have won this award. I love to get involved and help out wherever I can.”
She said the amount they raised for the school fundraiser was “more than we expected.
“It was an awesome result,” Elysa said. “We were both very proud of the amount of money we raised, with the total school involvement and the awareness we raised for both worthwhile causes.”
Elysa is a volunteer coach for her younger brothers’ under-9s team, making her one of the first female coaches in the club’s history.
Elysa has made a significant contribution to volunteering and coaching young children with intellectual and physical impairments at the Blowfly CC, resulting in improved skills and increased enjoyment of the game. Her proposal to run programs through public schools resulted in a four-week pilot program at Asquith Primary School.
