After a challenging year in 2020, many people are thinking about their lives, and the value of the work that they do; looking for a career change to a more meaningful role.
Supporting people to live independently in their own homes may be the answer! Talking with Molly, the wife of one of the people we support, I heard how much she values her husband’s team of support workers. She told me that without them, Henry, her husband, would not be able to live at home with her. After 59 years of marriage, this would be a heart-wrenching situation for them. She looks forward to his support workers helping with the housework and keeping him company while she goes out for a break. This gives her some ‘me time’ so that she can keep up her role as his wife and carer.
Support workers have a range of diverse tasks and no two days are the same. Hours of work are usually flexible, and can be family friendly if needed. The work is local, so your knowledge of the best coffee shops, where to park at the supermarket, and where the Doctor is located, is essential!
The work makes such a difference in people’s lives and will give you great job satisfaction.
