Cherrybrook Combined Probus Club Celebrates 27-Year history

Combined Probus Club of Cherrybrook did not hold back when its birthday came around. There were party hats, cake, and a room full of people happy to be there.

Past President Robin took the floor to reminisce, and then the lights dipped for a PowerPoint that trawled through some of the events of the last 27 years. For long-standing members it was a trip down memory lane. For the newer faces it was a first proper introduction to the club they had joined.

The mood afterwards was not wistful, though. Ask what the club has been up to lately and the answer is: plenty. They’ve had rounds of golf and bowls, a session of ten-pin bowling, and mini golf at Thornleigh. Then came a challenging walk from Barangaroo to Woolloomooloo, which tested legs that were perhaps still recovering from the fairways.

Not everything is about puffing and panting. Money Matters talks have kept minds busy, and two nights at the theatre, Fiddler on the Roof and My Fair Lady, kept spirits up. A lovely social drive to Avoca suited the unhurried, while the aircraft fanatics had their day at HARS. Plenty of wining and dining threaded through it all.

The diary is filling up again, with a ferry trip to Davistown, a train ride to Cronulla and a flight to Norfolk Island still to come.

If you’ve promised yourself you would get out more, this might be the nudge. The club is open to active retirees and the semi-retired, and meets at the Cherrybrook Community and Cultural Centre on the first Thursday of each month. Call Vicki on 0417 200 351; she and the members look forward to welcoming you and sharing the good times.
