Sydney’s bromeliad enthusiasts will gather at Castle Hill Showground later this month for a two-day celebration of one of spring’s most striking flowering plants. The Bromeliad Spring Show, hosted by the Bromeliad Society of Australia, will run from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, 26th September, and from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday, 27th September, at the Federation Pavilion.
Bromeliads are prized in warmer months for their unusual flower spikes and vivid, multicoloured foliage, and this year’s show will bring together growers from Sydney, regional New South Wales and interstate to display and sell their collections.
Among those exhibiting will be several of the society’s recent competition winners, including Harold Kuan, Nina Woodcock, Elizabeth Mudriczki and Kerry McNicol, alongside Anna Ernst, whose bromeliad wall hangings have become known for their artistic flair.
Tillandsia specialists Chris and Lap Larsen will travel up from Victoria for the event, joining Angela and Gary Flemming, who regularly bring one of the show’s largest and most varied plant selections. Jan and Jon Townsend will make the journey down from Bonville, bringing giant and colourful Alcantareas and Neoregelias for sale.
Organisers say the show floor will feature twenty sales tables, restocked throughout both days, along with books, pots and free advice from experienced growers on hand to answer questions.
Entry to the show is free, on-site parking is available, and visitors are encouraged to bring a box to carry home any purchases. A lucky barrel stocked with a selection of plants will also be running across the weekend.
