West Pennant Hills Sports Bowls Club wrapped up its mixed triples championship in May 2026, capping off a month of tight contests on the green.
The final pitted the trio of Harry Furst, Janne Reynolds and Albert Bosco against Con Ganis, Vicki Brown and Graeme Oddy, and neither side gave an inch early on. The scores sat locked at 6-all after seven ends, a deadlock that hinted at the drama still to come. By the 14th end, Albert’s team had edged ahead 16-10, looking like they might run away with it.
Graeme’s team had other ideas. They clawed their way back to level the scores at 20-all by the 19th end, setting up a finish nobody in the clubhouse could have predicted. One end later, everything changed: Graeme’s team put together a five-shot end that Albert’s side simply couldn’t answer. Con, Vicki and Graeme closed out the match 25-21.
Attention at the club has now shifted to the Novice Singles competition, open to bowlers who’ve picked up the sport within the last three years and haven’t yet won a club championship. Nine players have entered, with matches set to run over the following three weeks, weather depending.
