West Pennant Hills Sports Club Reopens Bowls Green

Winners Lindie and Tinus (on the right) with runners up Diane and John

West Pennant Hills Sports Club Bowls Club recently celebrated the reopening of our renovated green.

After hosting the Living Choice Carnival on Monday, 20 April, the club closed its second green for a full renovation. The work is ongoing, with the surface expected to return to play sometime in the spring. In the meantime, the carnival itself drew a solid crowd — somewhere between 80 and 90 bowlers arrived from clubs across the region to compete on the day.

But the bigger talking point around the club right now is the mixed pairs final. Lindie and Tinus Van Vurren beat Diane and John Healy 16 shots to 11 in a tight finish — and in doing so, became the first husband-and-wife team to win the club’s mixed pairs title in more than 15 years. It’s the kind of result that gets people talking over a cold drink after a round.

The club has moved straight into its mixed triples competition, which runs through April and May, while also fielding a side in Grade 6 of the regional Pennants competition with what members describe as “mixed success.”

Wednesday and Saturday social bowls sessions have been picking up new faces lately. With daylight saving now done, start times have shifted back to 12:30 pm. Anyone curious can call Lyn Van Wyk on 0417 752 997. The club is at 103 New Line Road, West Pennant Hills.
