Community Recycling Centre Update at South Windsor

The recent industrial fire at the Cleanaway Chemical Waste Recycling Facility in St Mary’s has impacted Hawkesbury City Council’s Community Recycling Centre at 1 The Driftway, South Windsor.

Due to storage limitations imposed by environmental obligations, the center is currently unable to accept paint and non-motor oils. Capacity is also limited for gas bottles, fire extinguishers, and large, embedded batteries from items like e-bikes and scooters.

However, the center continues to accept motor oil, household batteries, and smoke detectors. Discussions between the EPA and Cleanaway regarding resuming collections are underway, with a potential restart date of Monday, February 17th.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed of updates as they become available. Importantly, all other waste streams remain unaffected, and the center continues its regular operations seven days a week, from 8 am to 4 pm, with last entry at 3:45 pm.

For information on recycling or disposing of other items, residents can consult the Council’s waste dashboard.
