Footballers aged 45 and over are invited to lace up their boots for a day of friendly competition when Kenthurst Football Club hosts its 2026 Walking Football Gala Day in late July.
The event will be held at Kenthurst Park on Roughley Road on Sunday, 26 July, with games running from 9 am to 4 pm.
Designed as a social team-based competition, the gala day aims to bring together players from across the region while promoting fitness, friendship and community spirit.
Walking Football is a modified version of the game that removes running and physical contact, making it accessible to players of different fitness levels and football experience. Participants must always keep at least one foot on the ground, placing greater emphasis on passing, teamwork, skill and game awareness rather than speed.
The competition will feature 5-a-side matches without goalkeepers across three age divisions: 45–55 years, 55–65 years and 65 years and over. Mixed teams are encouraged, with each side required to have at least two female players on the field at all times.
Players can represent their football club, community team or gather a group of friends or former teammates to take part.
Organisers say the event is intended to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can enjoy the sport’s physical, mental and social benefits.
A canteen and barbecue will operate throughout the day, with presentations scheduled for 4 pm.
Team registration costs $200, with nominations closing on Friday, 10 July. Teams can register online here: Kenthurst and Districts Walking Football Gala Day. All players must also complete individual registration through PlayFootball before taking the field.
