Dural resident Magdalena Hessel Bach celebrated her 100th Birthday on 27th of January 2024, at her local, the Dural Country Club.
Magdalena Hessel Bach was born in 1924 at Sulzthal in Barvaria. During the war, Magdalena had to work in a job stipulated by the government, in the office of Kugelfischer in Schweinfurt.
Magdalena married Polish man Richard Kwiatkowski in 1945 and soon their daughter Anka Maria was born. The young family set sail in 1949 on board “The Canberra” to a new life in Australia.
On arrival, the family stayed at Bathurst Army Camp as a foreigners, and then moved onto Wallangarra to make a living on a farm.
Magdalena worked as a fruit and vegetable packer whilst Richard worked first for the railways, and later the abattoir whilst young Anka Maria was at school. A move to Sydney was next, and after numerous relocations, Magdalena finally settled in Dural.
Magdalena is surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren too. Magdalena has lived it all, and is still living it all!
The Dooral Roundup has been her family’s local newspaper for decades and they always look forward to reading each edition.
