Stitching Dreams, Connecting Communities

Stitching Dreams-Connecting Communities, Soroptimist International of Hornsby‘s new project for 2023, was successfully launched in March at The Salvation Army Hall in Blacktown. The launch was very well attended, with about 40 people from numerous community groups represented.

Our own SI Hornsby member Nasiba Akram, who is Community Engagement Lead at Host International https://www.hostint.org/ got the launch underway., followed by a welcome and blessing from Salvation Army Major Robyn Black. The Salvation Army are kindly providing the premises for us to use free of charge. https://www.salvationarmy.org.au/

As our President, Veronica Taffs was unable to be there, Anne Sheehan then spoke on behalf of SI Hornsby giving details of what the project will involve, followed by Maryam Zahid, founder and CEO of Afghan Women on the Move https://afghanwomenonthemove.org.au/   This organisation  supports and empowers Afghan women, mainly refugees and we are very excited to be partnering with them in our sewing project where we hope to be able to help provide opportunities for education, economic independence, financial literacy and mutual support to the women who come along.

We will be meeting on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12pm and for further details please contact Pam on 0425 229 615.
