Hornsby Art Exhibition Features Moore and Dominello’s Work

An art exhibition celebrating the beauty of still life and the vitality of Australian flora will take centre stage at Hornsby’s Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre early next year, with Still/Alive bringing together the work of two respected local artists.

Running from 13 February to 1 March 2026, the exhibition features more than 60 paintings by Beecroft-based artist Libby Moore and Dural artist Viola Dominello. While each brings a distinct approach to their practice, the pair are united by a shared fascination with flowers — particularly Australian natives — and the quiet storytelling power of still life.

Moore is known for her semi-surreal still life compositions, often built around carefully arranged glass and ceramic objects rendered in acrylic on canvas. Still/Alive will include a significant selection of her award-winning works, many of which are held in private and public collections. A graduate of the National Art School, Moore won the 2023 Hornsby Art Prize Local Artist Award for Just put your feet up for a while and has also claimed major accolades, including the Georges River Art Prize.

Dominello’s contribution to the exhibition is a new body of work grounded in her ‘en plein air’ practice, spanning painting, drawing and watercolour. Her career has included residencies in Italy and Tasmania, and her work has been recognised through major national prizes and awards, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales Trustees Watercolour Prize and the John and Elizabeth Newman Pring Memorial Prize.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell said the exhibition reflects the depth of creative talent within the local community and Council’s ongoing commitment to the arts.

“Council is proud to support events that celebrate creativity and local talent,” Cr Waddell said. “Exhibitions like Still/Alive give our community the chance to engage with art, explore new perspectives and enjoy the cultural life of Hornsby Shire.”

Still/Alive is free to attend and will be open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm, at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, 25 Edgeworth David Avenue, Hornsby.
