Celebrate Connection and Culture at Hornsby’s ‘Friends, Food and Fun’ Community Event

Hornsby Shire residents are being invited to come together for a lively morning of music, culture and connection, with this year’s Fun, Food and Friends event set to shine a spotlight on Social Inclusion as part of Social Inclusion Week and the expanded Hello Hornsby program.

Taking place at Hornsby RSL on Sunday 16 November from 10am to midday, the free event aims to foster genuine community connection, celebrate cultural diversity, and encourage people of all ages to engage with one another in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Attendees can expect a full program of entertainment, including traditional musical performances, cultural singing, and sets from local school groups such as Barker College’s pop and rock band and the Waitara Public School choir.

Interactive cultural activities will add to the festive atmosphere, with opportunities to try Chinese calligraphy, origami, traditional games, and Henna art. Local services and community organisations will also be on hand to help residents discover what’s happening in their area and how to get involved.

A complimentary morning tea featuring sweet and savoury bites will be served, rounding out the family-friendly event, which is expected to draw around 300 attendees.

The gathering underscores Hornsby Shire’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a more connected, inclusive community—particularly for residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds—while offering a warm and vibrant space for people to celebrate their shared home.

Mayor Warren Waddell said the event is a meaningful way to mark Social Inclusion Week and bring the community together:

“Social Inclusion Week is about helping all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society. This event recognises the theme of ‘Connect, Collaborate and Celebrate’ by creating a fun and inviting atmosphere where everyone is welcome.

“Hornsby Shire Council is proud to present initiatives like Hello Hornsby that bring people together and strengthen community bonds.”

Friends, Fun and Food’ will run from 10am-12pm on Sunday 16 November at Hornsby RSL Club. Morning tea is included. For more information and to book visit https://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/lifestyle/events/community-events/friends,-food-and-fun
