Warrah Specialist School Principal Dawn Grant-Skiba was recognised among 13 educators nationally in the 2026 Schools Plus Teaching Awards.
The awards were celebrated at Parliament House in Canberra on 15th September, recognising educators developing innovative approaches to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes.
Grant-Skiba said the award was an honour for herself and the Warrah team, which supports students with significant intellectual disability and complex additional needs.
“Being named a winner was an incredible honour and a wonderful recognition, not only for me personally, but also for the dedicated and hardworking team at Warrah Specialist School,” she said.
The award includes a $20,000 Teaching Fellowship, with Grant-Skiba planning to use the 12-month program to further develop an initiative with her school team.
“One thing is certain: our students will remain at the centre of whatever we do,” she said. “The initiative is ultimately about ensuring that their voices, choices, and aspirations shape what happens next.” Warrah Specialist School is located at 20 Harris Road, Dural.
