Students from Primary schools across Hornsby were invited to a behind-the-scenes look at NSW State Parliament by Member for Hornsby Matt Kean.
The students, all leaders at their respective schools, were treated to a tour of the Legislative Assembly where they witnessed lively debate before heading back to hear from special sporting guests including:
• Paralympic Co-captain Joany Badenhorst
• AFLW GWS Giants: Nicola Barr
• Cricket NSW: Chris Green
• NRL Parramatta Ex Captain Tim Mannah
• Past Rugby Union Wallaby: Nick Farr Jones
They spoke to the students about the hard work and dedication needed to get chosen for our top sporting teams as well as how to push past setbacks and to give their best at anything they do.
Dropping in on morning tea for an impromptu question time was Premier Dominic Perrottet. “To be able to get a chance to ask questions of the Premier is a pretty special experience for these kids and something they won’t forget,” Mr Kean said.
Matt firmly believes in recognising and supporting young leaders in our community and has always been impressed with the maturity and insight demonstrated by those students that he has met from the schools in the Hornsby Electorate.
There are all sorts of leaders in our community, and it is important that these students understand how they can use their experiences as school leaders in the wider community and for future leadership roles “I hope all the students had a wonderful morning and I wish them all the best as they start High School next year,” he said.
