Combined Probus Club of Cherrybrook is the kind of club that fills a calendar before you’ve had time to decide whether to join.
This year’s Changeover Lunch set the tone. A hundred members sat down together to mark the transition, inducting Steve as the new President and welcoming his management committee into their roles. When it emerged that Steve is a serious home cook, someone called out “Yes Chef” and the room ran with it. It stuck. His unofficial title for the year was decided before dessert.
The guest speaker who opened the club’s regular meeting program was Chris, who spoke about the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East with a level of detail and composure that kept the audience well and truly engaged. It was, by accounts, a strong start.
From there, the events calendar filled fast. A coach trip with lunch at Warragamba Dam. A walk from Kellyville to Rouse Hill — followed, naturally, by another lunch. An Opal card train journey to Kiama. Theatre outings to Cluedo and The Graduate. Happy Hour somewhere closer to home in Cherrybrook.
Still to come: Ten Pin Bowling, the Penrith Printing Museum, The Lion King, and a walk through the Quarantine Station at Manly.
Running alongside all of it: the regular weekly and monthly groups that the club has built over the years. Golf. Bowls. Craft. Book club. Games. Money matters. These attract consistent numbers, which says something — people keep showing up when something is worth showing up for.
The club meets on the first Thursday of every month at the Cherrybrook Community and Cultural Centre. Phone Vicki on 0417 200 351 for details.
