Castle Hill Art Society Mansion, all about the subject, highlights the quiet dedication of a community that continues to keep traditional art practices alive. On the evening of 6th May 2026 at 7.00 pm, attention turns to portrait painting as artist Janelle Hatherley leads a demonstration at the Castle Glen Community Centre.
Portraiture, often seen as one of the more demanding art forms, is approached here with a sense of accessibility. The Zorn Palette method reduces the process to four essential colours, encouraging artists to build confidence through limitation rather than excess. Alongside this, the Asaro Head provides a tactile way to understand structure, helping artists visualise how light shapes faces.
Events like this showcase the human side of art societies, where curiosity is nurtured, skills are shared, and creativity can flourish. This demonstration exemplifies the Society’s dedication to making art both accessible and meaningful for the broader community.
