“Joy to the World!” the angels sang.
But we know that sometimes it is difficult to experience that joy. There are all the expectations that can crowd out the “reason for the season”.
There can be the busyness of end of year activities – and yes, sometimes we schools can add to that.
But we here at Pacific Hills Christian School work to keep the story alive. It does not need much support to come back with impact – because there is indeed so much wonder within it.
G.K Chesterton, a wonderful write in the early 1900’s, wrote that when Jesus was born in a small cave cleft into a rock (which is probably the kind of ‘stable’ where Jesus was laid as a baby), the whole world changed, and that history from that time forth would move in a different direction.
Any review of world history would agree with that insight. So would the lives of the many millions upon millions of people who have lived differently because Christmas has become the pivotal moment of meaning in their lives.
So, this Christmas, look for the joy. And if you are finding it hard to find, go back to the origins of Christmas. Read the story again, quietly, with your children. Go to a church and experience the celebration more deeply.
In reaching within our hearts to find the true spirit of Christmas again, we will find something true, profound and beautiful. Amen.
