In August, I had the great opportunity to go to the Scout State Rally in Cataract Scout Camp, at Appin. Despite the freezing temperatures, our patrol, hilariously nicknamed the Beautiful Bananas, had an amazing time, with some amazing bases and epic night activities. With over 2000 attendees, we made new friends, met old ones and created some unforgettable memories.
State Rally is an annual event that allows scouts to have more individuality and freedom over three wonderful days, while encouraging them to learn the importance of making the right decisions, being safe and careful while having fun in an open, rural environment.
The theme, Ready… Set… Adventure! was a fitting title for the State Rally, with some truly adventurous bases, including the Predator, Fair’s Fair and the famous Caves, Flying Fox and Abseiling, bringing an adrenaline high to everyone who completed them. In particular, the Predator base involved teamwork and communication to successfully get a tag while not losing any lives to skillfully camouflaged and observant predators (aka Leaders) hidden throughout a small, bushy section of the enormous scout camp.
Afterwards, we had the choice to do some activities. We chose to do ring toss, go-carting and football archery. The famous Flying Fox was a great experience, going backwards to get a bit of a thrill. The second night was full of entertainment, with a large bonfire, carnival rides and a disco with an epic light show.
This annual event is one of the many highlights of being a scout and I highly encourage you to come and try it out! Dural Scout Group has vacancies for Girls and Boys from 5 to 25 years. Joeys (5yo), Cubs (8yo), Scouts (12yo) and Venturers (16yo).
