Planning a burn on your property?
Planned Burns on your property can be a great way to manage your land and reduce fire risk — but safety comes first.
Before you light up, you must notify both your neighbours and the NSW Rural Fire Service at least 24 hours in advance. It’s quick and easy. Just head to rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify.
Giving notice helps avoid unnecessary emergency call-outs — and ensures our firefighters are ready when they’re really needed. Plan ahead. Notify before you burn.
This information focuses on the ‘notify’ element of pile burning. It doesn’t cover everything that The Hills Council requires for pile burning – you can find the specific rules on the Hills Shire Council website by searching ‘Burning Regulations and Pile Burns for Bushfire Fuel Management’ and by visiting NSW Rural Fire Service at rfs.nsw.gov.au.
Community Strategic Plan
Towards Hills 2050 brings our community’s aspirations for the Hills to life. It will guide Council’s actions over the next 25 years as it plans for significant growth and navigates major challenges such as housing affordability, population increases, the rising cost of living, and the growing frequency of natural disasters – all while continuing to deliver essential services and programs.
The plan also outlines the roles of Council, Government, the community, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of The Hills. Have your say at:

Fight for a Fairer Hills Future
The NSW Government has designated The Hills Shire the fastest growing Council in NSW – and they need to allocate the funding to match.
Our roads are congested, our schools are overcrowded, our parks are in short supply. If you think it’s bad now, imagine when our population grows by 71 per cent to 321,600 people by 2041.
Council is calling on both the NSW and Australian Governments to take action by:
– Upgrading Windsor and Old Windsor Roads, as a priority amongst 45 identified crucial road upgrades
– Build at least 14 new schools
– Fund the development of 40 new sports fields (31 have partial funding and a further 9 do not have funding at all)
– Addressing the significant $207 million infrastructure gap in Box Hill
Sign the petition now and help us secure the infrastructure that The Hills deserves.
We need 20,000 signatures to have this issue debated in the NSW Parliament.
