Do you know a dedicated person or community group that deserves to be recognised for the work they do? Help them gain recognition by nominating them for the 2023 Australia Day Awards.
The Hills Shire Council Australia Day Awards acknowledges unsung heroes within the Shire who work selflessly to better their local community.
Hills Shire Mayor Peter Gangemi said the awards were the perfect way to celebrate ordinary Australians making extraordinary contributions.
“The Australia Day Awards are a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise people who are giving back to our community in many ways,” he said.
“They are a way for us to highlight local heroes who haven’t received acknowledgement on a wider scale for the tireless work they do to help others.”
“When I was first elected Mayor, I had the pleasure of meeting with and announcing the 2022 Australia Day Award winners, and I can’t wait to celebrate the next group of deserving recipients,” Mayor Gangemi said.
Australia Day Awards will be awarded in the following categories:
• Young Citizen of the Year (24 years and under)
• Citizen of the Year (25 years – 65 years)
• Senior Citizen of the Year (over 65 years)
• Environmental Citizen of the Year
• Community Group of the Year
“If someone springs to mind for you when you think about these awards, I encourage you to nominate them,” Mayor Gangemi added.
Applications can be made by visiting www.thehills.nsw.gov.au and searching for ‘Australia Day Awards.’ Nominations close Sunday 4 December 2022. Nominees must be residents of the Hills Shire local government area.
The winners of each category will be presented at an Australia Day Awards ceremony in 2023.
