More Commuter Parking Coming to the Hills

Commuters in Sydney’s north-west are set to benefit from up to 1,200 additional commuter parking spaces, with the NSW Government investing $160 million to expand parking at Tallawong Metro Station and Hills Showground Metro Station.

The project aims to improve access to the Metro network, with both commuter car parks regularly reaching capacity before 8 am.

A new multi storey carpark with up to 1,100 spots will be built at Tallawong Metro Station, more than doubling the station’s current parking capacity. The expansion will support the area’s rapid growth, with more than 50,000 new homes planned across the North West Growth Area over the next 20 years.

At Hills Showground Metro Station, an additional level will be added to the existing multi-storey car park, creating up to 100 extra parking spaces.

The new parking spaces will be integrated into Transport for NSW’s Park&Ride system, allowing commuters to access up to 18 hours of free parking each day when travelling by public transport. The initiative is designed to improve parking availability while encouraging more people to use the Metro network.

The parking expansions form part of broader efforts to improve transport connections across Western Sydney, alongside investments in bus services, active transport links and increased Metro capacity.

Premier Chris Minns said the additional parking would make commuting easier for thousands of residents.

“At Tallawong and Hills Showground, parking is at a premium every day. We understand this is a challenge for commuters who often have no option but to drive to the station, and these additional parking spaces will make it easier to access Metro services”, said Mr Minns.

The investment has been welcomed by local representatives, who say the additional parking will make a noticeable difference for commuters across Sydney’s north-west.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car highlighted the importance of delivering infrastructure that keeps pace with the region’s rapid growth, while helping residents enjoy a smoother and more convenient daily commute.

Minister for Transport John Graham pointed to the strong uptake of the Metro network as evidence of the need for further investment in supporting infrastructure, with the new parking upgrades set to improve access for current and future passengers

For Member for Riverstone Warren Kirby, the expansion responds directly to one of the most common concerns raised by local residents — the challenge of finding a parking space at busy Metro stations. The additional spaces at Tallawong and Hills Showground are expected to provide commuters with greater certainty when starting their journey.

Federal Member for Greenway Michelle Rowland also welcomed the Tallawong upgrade, noting the new multi-storey car park will significantly increase parking availability and help reduce the time local families spend searching for a spot before catching the Metro.

“By reducing the time spent searching for a car spot, this investment will help thousands of local commuters get where they need to be sooner,” said Rowland.

Construction timeframes are yet to be announced, with further updates expected to be provided as the project progresses.
