Mark Taylor Oval Reopens with Modern Facilities

Mark Taylor Oval has entered a new era following the official opening of a modern pavilion and upgraded grandstand on Saturday, 7 March, marking the final stage of a major redevelopment at Waitara Park.

The project delivers significantly improved facilities for local sport and community use. The redesigned grandstand now includes inclusive, accessible change rooms and shower amenities for both men’s and women’s cricket and rugby teams, reflecting the growing participation of women in sports traditionally dominated by men.

The pavilion introduces a range of modern amenities, including a canteen, an accessible community and club room, a scorer’s room, storage areas and public toilets. As part of the redevelopment, the former toilet block has been converted into additional storage space for sporting equipment.

The upgrades represent the third and final stage of improvements to the oval. The NSW Government provided $9 million towards sporting infrastructure at Waitara Park, including the construction of an indoor cricket centre. Hornsby Shire Council contributed approximately $1 million to upgrade the oval’s playing surface.

An additional $200,000 in funding was provided jointly by Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia through cricket infrastructure programs.

The completed facility strengthens Waitara Park’s role as a key sporting hub in northern Sydney and aims to support increased community participation in cricket and other sports.
