In Australia, a significant number of individuals are living with multiple long-term health conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, stroke, depression, and cancer. Research indicates that exercise-based rehabilitation can enhance physical function, alleviate symptoms, and improve the quality of life for those affected, potentially reducing hospital stays. Despite this, options for exercise tailored to individuals with multiple chronic health issues have been limited until recently.
Monash University is spearheading a study at Mt Wilga Private Hospital to investigate the efficacy of a personalised rehabilitation program, known as the PERFORM trial. This initiative aims to determine whether the program, which incorporates both exercise and educational sessions, can lead to greater improvements in well-being and physical function than standard care for individuals managing multiple long-term health conditions.
The study is currently seeking participants who have conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, or other related health issues. Eligible individuals will have the opportunity to engage in an 8-week program that includes regular exercise and educational sessions held twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
For those interested in participating, the research team encourages timely contact to explore eligibility and potentially benefit from this innovative rehabilitation approach.
It is FREE to participate! If you are interested in knowing more, please contact the Principal Investigator at Mt Wilga, Jennifer King on 9847 5312 or email [email protected]
