On 3rd June the members of Dural and District Chamber of Commerce, Dural Country Club, Richmond Golf Club and the local business community lost a great friend in John Granville Howes.
John paid just 10 pounds to come to Australia in 1966 from
Hertfordshire in the UK, and was “rewarded” just two years later when we sent him to serve with the Australian forces in Vietnam.
Having survived his war service John Granville trained firstly at Castle Hill RSL then joined Dural Country Club in 1980. He was appointed General Manager in 1991 and during his tenure the club flourished, providing much-needed funds to the community, to charities and to those in need.
After 30 years with the Country, Club John retired in 2010 to enjoy his golf, support the Roosters and spend more time with his family. At that time the Chamber gratefully acknowledged his outstanding service to the Dural community by awarding him Life Membership.
John will be sadly missed by his three daughters and nine grandchildren and his many friends. We hope that he is now enjoying the fairways and putting greens of heaven, cigarette in hand and gourmet meal waiting – complete with the sommelier.
