Clr Dr Verity Greenwood, Hornsby Shire Council
On Sunday, 4th August, our long-awaited Beecroft Village Green was officially opened with much support from our Beecroft community and the many visitors who took advantage of perfect August weather and a range of free activities, food and for the children (and young at heart) plenty of ice cream.
The cutting of the ribbon by the Mayor Philip Ruddock and the Councillors who were present, marked a remarkable and often bumpy journey of community consultation and negotiation.
The result is an architectural design that recognises properly reconstructed exercise, recreation and social spaces can bring multiple social, cultural, economic, and environmental benefits to the Beecroft-Cheltenham community and surrounding region. The Village Green is a truly valuable community asset which retains its heritage character and supports its turpentine ironbark forest treescape.
Special thanks to our Hornsby Council team who ensured the Village Green was designed and built with an understanding of our community wants and needs. They approached the Village Green project with the same enthusiasm, care and interest as if they were creating their own backyard, which has resulted in a project of overall excellence.
