Hills Residents Dig Deep to Support Mayor’s 2025 Christmas Appeal and Library Fine Amnesty

In the spirit of Christmas, The Hills Shire has dug deep and donated more than 2000 non-perishable food items to the Mayor’s 2025 Christmas Appeal and Library Fine Amnesty.

A wide variety of food items such as rice, puddings, pasta and tuna were donated to Anglicare’s Mobile Community Pantry, which provides food at affordable prices.

As a result, 193 overdue library books and resources were returned with fines waived in exchange for the food donations.

“I want to thank all those who donated generously to my Christmas Appeal and Library Fine Amnesty,” Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said.

“We were able to donate 2247 items, which included beans, cereals, noodles and many other staple food items to Anglicare.

“All donations received will support Anglicare’s Mobile Community Pantry. Christmas can be a difficult time for many in our community and these donations will help ease some of the financial pressures felt at this time of year.”

Many people who did not have a library fine also contributed to the appeal.

“The Hills Shire is such a generous and giving community and I’m so proud to call this Shire my home,” Mayor Byrne said.

“I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year,” she added.

The overdue library items have been returned to shelves across the Hills library branches for the whole community to enjoy once more.
