Celebrating over four decades of excellence in public speaking, leadership development, and community service, Hawkesbury Valley Toastmasters Club recently marked its 43rd anniversary at Hawkesbury Central Library, Windsor.
The milestone event brought together members and guests for an evening of inspiration, camaraderie, and reflection on the club’s rich legacy.
Chartered in March 1982 by respected Toastmaster Doug Spinks DTM, the club quickly established Speechcraft and Youth Leadership programs within its first year. Like many clubs from the 1980s, Hawkesbury Valley Toastmasters experienced fluctuations in membership over the years, but it was steadfastly supported for many years by Charter President Norman Jones, with the help of his wife, Marjorie Hood-Jones.
During the Covid shutdowns, the club partnered with its sister club, Springwood Toastmasters, to conduct online meetings. By the end of 2020, the members were eager to return to in-person meetings at the Hawkesbury Central Library, Windsor.
Since its inception, the club has grown in both quality and quantity, and last year, it was recognized as a ‘President’s Distinguished Club.’ Over the past decade, the club has been in the spotlight for its recognition of long-serving members and for contributing distinguished leaders to District 90, Toastmasters International. This includes district speech contest finalists and executive leaders.
The event was expertly led with retrospection, as insightful speeches resonated with the audience. Past Region 12 Advisor (Toastmasters International) Michael Said, DTM, delivered a moving address on the club’s legacy, emphasizing the lasting impact of mentorship and community.
Setting the tone for the night, District 90’s Western Division Director, Bradley Silk, DTM, offered a heartfelt toast, inspiring attendees to look ahead to the next chapter in both their individual journeys and the club’s.
A special highlight of the evening was the ceremonial cake-cutting, symbolizing the club’s continued success. As a token of appreciation, attendees received personalized thank-you notes and cookies, reflecting the club’s spirit of gratitude and fellowship.
Celebrating Hawkesbury Valley’s 43rd anniversary wasn’t just about reflecting on past achievements but also about looking ahead – renewing the club’s dedication to building leaders, supporting members in achieving their public speaking goals, and overcoming challenges along the way. As the club moves forward, it remains committed to excellence, one speech at a time.
The club’s executive committee and members warmly invite you to embark on an enriching
Toastmasters journey to boost your confidence and public speaking skills. At Hawkesbury Valley
