Cherrybrook Litter Warriors

By Phillip Combe

On Wednesday, August 13th, 11 people met at The Brook Eatery, Cherrybrook. The aim that day, was to cleanse Greenway Park of litter.

So how did this come about? Initially, Natalie Bryant was so disgusted by local litter, she was regularly picking up near her home and environs. Natalie soon realised the task was bigger than she realised. Nat contacted Hornsby Council to discuss and was put in touch with Phillip Combe, a volunteer council Waste Warrior.

Phillip is also one of your local magazine delivery riders, too. A hasty meeting was arranged and Phillip invited Tom Rubin along too. Tom never leaves home without a bag to collect rubbish during his walks! And that’s how Cherrybrook Litter Warriors got started.

We had a fantastic result at Greenway Park. Almost an “otto bin” full of loose litter. I hope none of it was yours! The camaraderie and community spirit was infectious. The fresh air enjoyable, as we wandered around the park. What wonderful social facilities we have. Why do some people trash them? The good news is that we felt, as a group, that we can do more. And we want to.

Further events are scheduled for Thursday, September 11th. This time meeting at Appletree shops and targeting the lovely park behind the shops.

More volunteers wanted to keep our shire beautiful. To meet like-minded people and make friends. Maybe you want to start your own local group. Let us help you get started. For further information, or details on how to join, contact Phillip. [email protected]
