At the end of last term, the Galston High School SRC ran an extremely successful (and fun!) World’s Greatest Shave event, raising an impressive amount for charity.
Held on the 19th of March, almost $12,000 was raised in support of the Leukemia Foundation. Students filled the hall at lunch to watch on as the brave shaved or coloured their hair to raise funds.
Maddison, Angie, George, Bowen and Megan (and her mum) made the biggest contributions by shaving or dying their hair. Students especially appreciated SRC Coordinator, Mr Troy Bishop, shaving his hair into a truly impressive (if short-lived) mullet.
The funds raised by these students and teachers provide families facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through the scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
This care includes providing accommodation near life-saving treatment at no cost and the support of specially trained blood cancer support workers who can help them navigate the system and their treatment at every step.
Galston High School sends a big thank you to Lisa Dower who volunteered her professional services to be the hairdresser for the day.
