Mary Poppins Musical by Galston High Students

Galston High School is preparing to throw open its doors to a very different kind of audience this month, with students staging Mary Poppins across three performances from Thursday 23rd July to Saturday 25th July 2026.

For a school community used to seeing its students in classrooms and on sporting fields, the musical offers something different: a chance to watch them under lights, in costume, holding an audience’s attention for a full production rather than a single class period.

Months of rehearsal have gone into getting there, with students juggling schoolwork alongside long sessions perfecting songs, dance numbers and stagecraft.

The production draws on far more than the performers audiences will see on opening night. Musicians, stage crew, and technical teams have all played a part in pulling the show together, each contributing skills built specifically for this production rather than borrowed from elsewhere.

It is the kind of collective effort that rarely gets noticed from the audience, but that makes the difference between a show that runs smoothly and one that doesn’t.

Locals heading along across the three-night season can expect a family-friendly evening built around the songs and theatrical flourishes Mary Poppins is known for, brought to life with costumes and staging designed for this production.

For the school, though, the value runs deeper than any single night. It’s a chance to show what happens when students are handed real responsibility and the room to rise to it — and, if rehearsals are any guide, this cast has done exactly that.
