Galston Early Learning Centre is getting a major facilities upgrade after Community Bank Galston stepped in with a $27,000 grant to fund new air conditioning and solar panels.
The money will go toward installing a full climate control system so children and staff have a comfortable space to learn and play regardless of the weather outside, alongside solar panels that will cut the centre’s power bills and its carbon footprint at the same time.
For a centre that spends its days looking after other people’s kids, comfort isn’t a luxury. Sydney summers push classrooms into the high thirties some afternoons, and a broken or absent air conditioning system turns a learning environment into an endurance test for three-year-olds and their carers alike.
The bank’s contribution removes that problem outright, while the solar installation means the savings keep compounding well after the initial spend is forgotten.
Community Bank Galston, part of the Bendigo Bank network, has framed the grant as a direct return of customer banking activity back into the suburb. Profits generated locally get redirected into local projects, and this is one of them.
The centre can now redirect money it might have spent on energy bills back into programs and resources for the children in its care, which is arguably the more lasting outcome of the two upgrades.
